Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to Ultima InfoSys: Jurnal Ilmu Sistem Informasi go through a double-blind peer review process, in which the identities of the authors and reviewers are kept hidden from each other. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two reviewers who are experts in the relevant field. The entire review process is managed through the journal’s Open Journal Systems (OJS), and all communication between authors and reviewers is handled by the editor. The journal follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) throughout the process.

Stages of the Review Process

  • Submission.Authors submit their manuscript through the OJS system using the journal’s template. Before submitting, authors must ensure that all identifying information, such as names, affiliations, and acknowledgments, has been removed from the manuscript file to support blind review.
  • Initial Screening. The editor checks whether the manuscript fits the journal’s focus and scope, follows the author guidelines and template, and is written in acceptable academic language. All manuscripts are checked for plagiarism using similarity-checking software, and manuscripts with a similarity score above 20% will be returned to the authors or rejected. Manuscripts that do not pass the initial screening will be returned to the authors for correction or rejected without review.
  • Peer Review.Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are sent to at least two reviewers. Reviewers assess the originality, relevance, methodology, analysis, clarity of presentation, and quality of references, and are asked to complete their review within 2–4 weeks. Reviewers who have a conflict of interest with the manuscript must decline the invitation.
  • Editorial Decision.Based on the reviewers’ recommendations, the editor makes one of the following decisions: accept without revision, accept with minor revisions, major revisions required, or reject. If the reviewers’ recommendations differ significantly, the editor may invite an additional reviewer.
  • Revision.Authors who receive a revision decision must revise the manuscript according to the reviewers’ and editor’s comments and submit it through OJS within the time given, normally 2 weeks for minor revisions and 4 weeks for major revisions. Authors should include a response letter explaining how each comment was addressed. Revised manuscripts may be sent back to the reviewers for a second round of review.
  • Final Decision. The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision on acceptance or rejection, taking into account the reviewers’ recommendations and the quality of the revised manuscript.
  • Copyediting and Publication.Accepted manuscripts are copyedited and laid out by the editorial team.

Review Timeline

The journal aims to give authors a first decision within 4–8 weeks of submission. The entire process from submission to publication generally takes 2–4 months, depending on the speed of the review and revision stages.

Confidentiality

Editors and reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents and must not share, discuss, or use any part of a manuscript for their own benefit.
